Electricity workers have revealed that, here will be nationwide blackouts as they will be withdrawing their services as from Sunday midnight in preparation for the organized labour’s indefinite strike scheduled for Monday.
Dominic Igwebike, the acting General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees disclosed this in a notice issued on Friday.
This development is coming in conformity with the indefinite strike action by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress over the failure of the federal government to sign and implement a new minimum wage and also over its inadequacy to reversal the April 3, 240% electricity tariff hike.
Recall that on Friday, May 31, the organized labor had announced the commencement of the indefinite strike to take effect on Monday.
This was because the federal government had offered N60,000 as a minimum wage but organized labor proposed N400,000.
Prior to this latest development, workers had planned a walkout over the government’s N60,000 minimum wage proposal.
Nigerian workers are also using the strike action to drive home their demand for the immediate reversal of the current electricity tariff to N65 kilowatt-hour from the current N208.80.
What They’re Saying
