The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, beamed with pride over the energetic and confident display the country put up at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, saying it simply mirrors the power of “Naija” and the strength in the nation’s diversity.

Team Nigeria made a stylish entrance at La Grande Seine during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Led by their flag bearer, Tobi Amusan, and their general captain, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, the team emerged to brave the rain in a show of spirit and enthusiasm.

Team Nigeria would be represented by 88 athletes: 63 females and 25 males, competing in 12 sporting events at the Paris Olympics. The 2024 Games is slated to hold between July 26 and August 11 with the projection of 10,714 athletes competing for 206 countries.

The minister, Mr. Enoh, hailed the team’s display, saying it epitomizes the beauty and strength of what can be united about Nigeria before the world. He said, “The fact that a team made it to the Olympics, led by such fine athletes, is a testimony in itself to the power of ‘Naija’ and the strength of our diversity as a nation.”.

The Nigerian contingent is bidding to make a huge impact in some events, putting behind their past successes and taking a huge chunk of athletic talent from this West African nation. From the opening ceremony, it was already obvious and they were ready to take on the world’s best.

Team Nigeria expects all eyes on them for impressive performances and podium finishes as the Games progress. With such a strong lineup of athletes, the country is optimistic and looks forward to the opportunity to celebrate their success on the international stage.
