This will be a huge blow to Nigeria’s AFCON qualification campaign, as the team is set to miss star striker Victor Osimhen for the crucial doubleheader against Libya. The Super Eagles forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, sustained this during a match involving his side and Kasimpasa, where he scored a brace that included his debut goal.
Osimhen had been instrumental in Nigeria’s attack but was ruled out due to a strain and bleeding in his left posterior muscle. That was confirmed by Galatasaray. This comes after he missed Galatasaray’s last match-a 2-2 draw against FC RFS in the UEFA Europa League. The club issued a statement explaining the injury to Osimhen as being in treatment, though expected back after the international break.
This is to say that the absence of Osimhen has seriously made a vacuum in the attack line of Interim Nigeria coach Augustine Eguavoen, whom he has to rebuild ahead of crucial AFCON qualifiers. The injury is reportedly not serious, though. His return is expected to come in Galatasaray’s match against Antalyaspor after the break.
Eguavoen will seek a replacement for him as Nigeria takes on Libya to earn crucial points in their quest for AFCON qualification.
