Nigeria has joined the list of countries that won’t be writing the IELTS exam when applying to the University of Alberta. The good news was announced on Twitter by Mr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi who was also the reason for the celebratory news. In a tweet posted in the early hours of today, the Nigerian revealed that he requested to the graduate school of the University of Alberta on email, LinkedIn, and Twitter about a fortnight ago to plead that applicants from Nigeria should be excused from submitting the English proficiency test.
“I followed up with a reminder on Monday and as of today, I am happy to inform you that Nigeria has been added to the list of countries in which English is the official language of instruction. All the best to applicants! Together, we can achieve a lot” He concluded.
Some of the countries recognized by the University of Alberta, in which the English proficiency tests can be exempted:
Mauritius, Bermuda, New Zealand, South Africa, Jamaica, Malta, Nigeria, Barbados, Australia, Bahamas, Grenada, Belize, England, Canada, Antigua and Barbuda, South Pacific Islands, Scotland, United Kingdom, Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and the U.S.A.
Some other foreign Universities that Nigerians can go to without writing the IELTS exams are: Aston University, Swansea University, University of Geneva, University of Plymouth, University of Greenwich, Portsmouth University, University of Bolton, University of Warwick, etc. all of which are in the U.K
