According to a report published by the Henley Passport Index, Nigeria’s passport ranked lower than that of South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, Malawi, Uganda, Ghana, Morocco, Benin, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Senegal, Niger, Mali, Chad, Algeria, Burundi, and Congo.
The ranking was determined by the number of visa-free destinations available to passport holders. Nigerian passport holders can enter only 46 countries without a visa.
Japan and Singapore scored first and second, respectively, with their passports granting entry to 193 places, while Afghanistan rated bottom with 27.
With access to 188 destinations, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, and Portugal were ranked sixth.
With access to 187 visa-free destinations, the United States, Belgium, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Norway ranked seventh.
Namibia (66th), Malawi (70th), Kenya (71st), Tanzania (72nd), Zambia (73rd), The Gambia (75th), Ghana (79th), Sierra Leone (79th), Rwanda (82nd), Burkina Faso (85th), and Cote d’Ivoire are all placed higher than Nigeria (86th). Niger Republic and Mali were ranked 89th and 90th, respectively.
