The Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Tayo Oluwatuyi, popularly known as Tukana, has tragically passed away, leaving the state in mourning. His death, announced on Saturday by the state government, came after a protracted battle following a road accident along the Ife-Ibadan Road in December 2024.
The government confirmed the sad news in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Wale Akinlosotu. “It is with profound sadness that the Government of Ondo State announces the passing of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, Secretary to the State Government, on January 4, 2025,” the statement read. The commissioner noted that the former SSG sustained severe injuries in a car accident on December 15, 2024, and had been hospitalized since then.
Tukana’s death is ironic end to a career built on relentless public service and administrative excellence. Known for his dedication to the state, Oluwatuyi held numerous key positions, including Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Commissioner, and twice serving as SSG. His leadership left a lasting impact, with Akinlosotu describing him as a figure whose “commitment to administrative coordination, policy advisory, and implementation had a significant impact on Ondo State.”
Appointed as SSG in January 2024 by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Oluwatuyi’s tenure was marked by what many describe as exceptional service. The government has promised to release details of his memorial arrangements in due course, but the reality of his departure hits deep. It’s a reminder of how frail life is, even for those who seem larger than life in public service. Death has no respect!
