Argentine authorities had on Thursday, announced that three people have been charged in relation to the One Direction singer, Liam Payne’s death. Recall that the popular artist had fallen from his Buenos Aires hotel balcony last month,
The 31-year-old’s demise had surprised the world, and raised questions about how and why he had fallen.
A 911 call from a hotel employee the day Payne died had prior warned that he had been behaving aggressively and could have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
An autopsy conducted soon after his death showed that the former boy band member had traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his system at the time of death, a prosecutor’s office remarked in a statement on Thursday.
Payne’s body was eventually handed over to his father, Geoff, over the weekend and taken back to his native England.
The suspects charged in Payne’s death include an alleged drug dealer, a hotel employee who may have given Payne the cocaine and someone else with close ties to the singer, according to the authorities said.
All have been accused of playing a role in giving Payne the drugs, with the hotel employee accused of giving Payne cocaine at least two times during his stay and the suspected drug dealer believed to have provided it twice more two days before his death.
The person who was visiting with Payne is also charged with “abandonment of a person followed by death,” the authorities further added.
None of those charged were named at this time, but they be notified and are presently banned from leaving the country, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, investigations into the circumstances surrounding Liam Payne’s death will continue, prosecutors said, adding that they were still trying to unlock the singer’s broken laptop which eye witnesses had told local media that they saw him smashing in the hotel lobby.
