Italian Carabinieri police announced on Friday the arrest of more than 50 individuals in their latest crackdown on the ‘Ndrangheta mafia.
Led by the renowned anti-Mafia investigator Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, ‘Operation Karpanthos’ involved the mobilization of over 400 personnel.
In the aftermath of the operation, 38 individuals have been incarcerated, six placed under house arrest, and eight have been issued restraining orders preventing them from leaving their hometowns.
The investigation has unearthed a web of criminal activities linked to the ‘Ndrangheta, including large-scale drug trafficking, money laundering, and extortion.
The ‘Ndrangheta, Italy’s most dominant mafia organization, has eclipsed Sicily’s Cosa Nostra and has extended its influence across Europe and beyond.
