Patrick Vieira is the top candidate to take over the Senegal manager job after Pape Thiaw was sacked following a disastrous World Cup campaign. The Senegalese Football Federation is on the hunt for a new boss after Pape Thiaw’s reign came to a premature end in the World Cup after Senegal crashed out in the Round of 32.
The African side entered the tournament as one of the strongest in Africa, and came into the knockout stages as one of the best-placed third teams; however, they crashed out 3-2 after letting slip a 2-goal lead against Belgium.
Thiaw’s departure has left an opening in the hot seat as the Senegal FA search for a new man to take them into the next cycle.

As reported by French publication L’Equipe, former Arsenal captain Vieira has emerged as a frontrunner for the top job. The French manager has built up a strong coaching CV managing in Major League Soccer with New York City FC, in the Premier League with Crystal Palace, and most recently with Italian giants Genoa.
Vieira was born in Dakar but would emigrate to France, where he would go on to become one of the greatest midfielders the nation has produced and won a FIFA World Cup in 1998.
His strong links to Senegal and his experience coaching at the highest level make Vieira the leading candidate to lead the current cohort of talent in the country.
