Police officials in Kano State arrested a Chinese national, Mr. Gheng Chu, on Friday, for the supposed murder of a 22-year-old girl, Miss Ummukulthum Sani, in the state.

The State police command spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development at a press conference on Saturday in Kano.

Haruna reported that the Police command had received a distress call at around 10:00 p.m. on Friday and the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Lawal Abubakar, had quickly dispatched a team of operatives to the scene.

According to reports, the 47 yr. old Chinese had gone to the residence of the deceased lady, Miss Ummukulthum Sani, aged 22, a quarrel had begun shortly after and Chu had then stabbed Sani severally with a knife.

“The police team reached the scene of the incident and rushed the victim to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital where she was confirmed dead. An in-depth investigation into the case had been launched on the orders of the Commissioner of Police.” Haruna had affirmed.

The mother of the deceased, who had been at the Police Command had lamented that her daughter had been in a relationship with the suspect before she got married three years ago. After the marriage had failed, the suspect had then resumed stalking the deceased but “my daughter never paid attention to him.” the mum had reiterated.
