As it gears up for the 2023 Population and Housing Census, the National Population Commission (NPC) has reassured the public about the security of its server and data.
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, Director of the Public Affairs Department (PAD), made this assertion.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Sanusi Maigida, a member of the Commission and the Comptroller of Chanchaga LGA in Niger State, had previously asserted that the NPC server had been compromised.
The LGA-level training for the supervisors and enumerators for the 2023 Population and Housing Census had been postponed, according to Maigida.
Yahaya claimed that the commission’s server was not compromised and reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to a reliable and respectable census.
The head of the public affairs department referred to the information about the server hack as untrue and misrepresentative.
Yahaya said that the country would gain from the Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Nasir Kwarra, traveling to the UN to participate in the 56th Session of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development.
He said that the chairman, who also delivered Nigeria’s statement on “Population and Development” at the international conference, had now returned to Nigeria in time for the nation’s first-ever digital census preparations.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to keeping the public informed of changes regarding the 2023 Population and Housing Census as they happen.
Yahaya enlisted the help of Nigerians to guarantee a safe and effective census in 2023.
