Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has shared the personal reason behind her decision to undergo body enhancement surgery, revealing that it was driven by struggles with body image after giving birth.
Speaking to Saturday Beats, the mother of three explained that although she had always been naturally busty, her figure changed after having children, which affected her self-confidence. The feeling became stronger after her third child, leading her to opt for cosmetic surgery for her emotional and mental well-being.
“I didn’t have an hourglass shape. Starting to have babies didn’t help matters for me. I didn’t like what I saw when I looked at myself after my third child. I felt I owed it to myself to be happy and confident,” Ogbodo said.
She stressed that the procedure was a personal choice, aimed solely at improving her own sense of peace rather than seeking approval from others.
“The surgery wasn’t for anyone else but for me, for my mental health to feel good, okay, and enough. I am enough competition for myself,” she added.
The actress also explained why she decided to be open about the surgery, noting that transparency is particularly important for public figures. She criticized celebrities who hide cosmetic procedures, pointing out the misleading impression it can create for fans.
“In this country, people, especially celebrities, are often not honest. You’re a role model, yet you lie to those who genuinely love you. Many undergo procedures, disappear, and then return with new bodies without admitting they worked on themselves. Why hide it when you can inspire other women with your story?” she remarked.
For Ogbodo, being candid about her journey is a way to motivate women struggling with self-esteem. She believes sharing her experience can provide encouragement to others facing similar challenges.
She also revealed that her husband fully supported her choice, understanding her struggles with body image and her desire to regain confidence.
