Residents of Zamfara State are currently lamenting the unbearable high cost of transportation.
A lot of people have turned to trekking due to their inability to afford the high transport fare.
A resident of Gengeri MaiGemu in Tudunwada area of Gusau had revealed to newsmen that on a normal day, he paid commercial motorcycle riders the sum of N100 but of recent, since the fuel scarcity, the price increased to N300.
Residents had also gathered that transportation from Gusau to Sokoto which used to cost N4,000 is now N6,500.
The commercial motorcycle riders and commercial vehicle drivers had revealed that they had to hike their fares to make profit since a litre of fuel sold for between N950 to N1000.
A visit to most filling stations in Gusau metropolis revealed that not more than five filing stations were operating, and others, under lock and key.
The high cost of fuel had also led to the prices of foodstuffs in the market skyrocketing.
It is disappointing that the Federal Government of Nigeria has yet to issue a statement regarding the fuel scarcity dilemma pervading the country at the moment, leaving citizens wallowing in untold hardship, yet again, despite the country being an oil producing nation.
