Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, the celebrated Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family confirmed on Monday that he died on October 6, 2025.
Describing his passing as a “glorious transition,” the family paid tribute to Ukpai’s lifetime of unwavering service to God and humanity.
For more than six decades, Ukpai was a pioneering figure in evangelism, known for his powerful preaching, prophetic ministry, and spiritual mentorship.
His work influenced millions of lives both within Nigeria and internationally, leaving a profound spiritual legacy.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity,” his family said.
They added, “His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come.”
Throughout his ministry, Ukpai became known for his large-scale evangelistic campaigns, transformative messages, and commitment to equipping both clergy and lay leaders. Beyond his ministry, he was celebrated as a devoted husband, father, and mentor, touching countless lives with guidance and compassion.
While mourning his physical passing, his family emphasized their gratitude for his life, noting that he “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.” They also stated that funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
Ukpai’s ministry left enduring contributions, including churches, educational initiatives, and humanitarian programs that continue to impact communities around the world. His life exemplified the biblical truth he cherished: “To live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
