Manchester City midfielder Rodri has defied logic by revealing his intention to return to action before the end of the current campaign, despite being initially ruled out for the campaign with his anterior cruciate ligament injury in September. The 28-year-old had gone under the knife following an unfortunate setback during the Citizen’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
Rodri, who won the Ballon d’Or last month, told The Rest is Football podcast: “My target is to come back this season. I think in terms of my mentality, it’s going to be positive for me not to give up and throw away the season.” He has also accepted that the likely timelines of recovery will be determined by medical advice, but “My target is six, seven months, but the physios will dictate.
The injury has been a big blow for City, who are chasing an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title. Currently second in the table, Pep Guardiola’s side trails Liverpool by eight points.
The next challenge for City comes on Sunday when they take on the league leaders in a crucial battle. A win at Anfield could see them close the gap and strengthen their title credentials, even as they are without Rodri.
