United’s Rúben Amorim, on the other hand, has told the squad members that he would not leave the club and then directly urged Alejandro Garnacho to find a new team this summer.
Amorim immediately offered to quit without compensation if the club or the fans, who were the real stakeholders, felt he was not the right man, after the 1-0 loss of United to Tottenham in the Europa League final. The tactician now came out with a clear message of staying and rebuilding the team despite the poor results, and that should place his position in the 16th place in the Premier League before the game with Aston Villa be considered as a disappointment.
It was revealed by the club insiders that Amorim met the squad at Carrington the previous Saturday and confirmed his decision to everyone there and also told Garnacho in a segment of the press that he was not part of his plans.
Garnacho, who looked very uneasy after he was subbed in for a mere 20 minutes in the final, broke the silence by expressing his disappointment, and said, “The season was sh*t… I played every round and today, only 20 minutes? I don’t know. I’ll enjoy the summer and see what happens.”
Things heated up further when his brother put out the allegation that the winger was “thrown under the bus” by Amorim, referring to his missed chance in the semi-final, and the choice of Mason Mount over him in the final. United did not make any comments concerning the issue of the internal process.
