Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, yesterday, announced the salary increase for civil servants in the state.
The governor, who is yet to disclose the amount of the increment, remarked that the pay rise will be unprecedented in the country, “as Lagos State is a pacesetter and first in setting standards.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu had made this announcement while addressing civil servants in the state, who converged on the Head of Service’s office, during a working visit to the Secretariat, Alausa in Ikeja.
Spontaneous Jubilation from workers had trailed this announcement since it was made, as the news went around the Government Secretariat.
Additionally, the Governor announced a 25 percent salary increment for employees working in the core establishment agencies.
In reply to the reasons for the salary review, the governor said:
“We know there is inflation and a high cost of living in the country, but we are determined to cushion the effects on our workers and residents.”
“In September, I instructed the Head of Service of the Commissioner for Establishment, Training, and Pensions to work out the technicalities of a pay raise for the more than 100, 000 public service workforce. We are capable of doing this, Lagos leads while other states follow in Nigeria. In salary increment, we are leading again.”
