The Marlian music scene is embroiled in controversy as the mystery surrounding the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, continues to deepen. Protests have erupted in Lagos, Delta, Ogun, and Ondo states, with impassioned fans demanding justice.

Mohbad, a 27-year-old Afrobeats singer, passed away under circumstances shrouded in suspicion last Tuesday. In response, the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a comprehensive investigation by the Lagos State Police Command.

In Lagos, protesters gathered in various areas, including Alagbado, AIT Road, Command, and Ile-Iwe in Meiran. The demonstrations were conducted under heightened security, with police patrol vans and armed officers accompanying the demonstrators. Over 200 youths, donning black shirts and carrying placards, passionately called for justice for Mohbad.

Similar protests took place in Warri, Delta State. On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Akure, the Ondo State capital, also demanded justice for the late singer, carrying placards with messages like “Justice for Mohbad” and calling for the government to take action against individuals like Naira Marley and Sam Larry.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State responded to the public outcry by inviting the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation. He pledged to use inter-agency collaboration and advanced technology to uncover the truth, vowing to ensure that those involved in Mohbad’s death face legal consequences.

Additionally, Femi Falana’s law firm has requested a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, citing its tragic and mysterious nature. They urged the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State to conduct an urgent inquest, as mandated by the Lagos State Coroner’s Law 2007.

Notably, Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has taken an active role in seeking justice and reported to the police. There are also reports of alleged mistreatment by Naira Marley towards his staff.

As these developments unfold in Nigeria, the crucial question remains: Will justice prevail for Mohbad, or will this controversy fade away unanswered
