Spain’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, has clarified the story behind a viral photo of him as a toddler being bathed by Lionel Messi. The photo recently gained attention as Yamal excelled with La Roja at Euro 2024.
In an interview with Jijantes FC, Yamal stated, “I have never spoken to Messi about the photo where he was bathing me. At the time of the photo with Messi, I was not aware, obviously. My father had it saved, and we never brought it to light because of the issue of comparisons, which are never good.”
With both players making their mark at Barcelona, Yamal has inevitably been compared to Messi. However, the 17-year-old is realistic about his career prospects in relation to the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“No one is bothered by being compared to the best player in history. But those are things that remain because I will never be like him,” Yamal remarked.
Despite the comparisons, Yamal continues to focus on his development and contributions to both club and country, fully aware of the challenges in matching Messi’s legendary achievements.
