Nigerian controversial rapper Speed Darlington, real name Darlington Okoye, has disclosed that he has been arrested 19 times and detained five times.
The singer has had multiple confrontations with law enforcement over the years.
He got locked up in October and November 2024 for ridiculing Burna Boy’s affiliation with Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy, a controversial American music mogul.
In an Instagram post on Friday, the singer proudly highlighted his numerous arrests in a freestyle video, just weeks after his release.
“Five lockups, 19 arrests, I get game but I no dey hear. When you hear this one, na Kuje. If you mature, I move on, shame on you,” he rapped.
It should be noted that he was held at the Kuje Correctional Facility and remained there until his release on January 21, 2025, despite being granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja several weeks earlier.
Speed Darlington claimed shortly after his release that he narrowly escaped being assassinated while coming from a Lagos club.
His statement stirred controversy, leading his lawyer, Stan Alieke, to announce that he and his law firm had severed ties with the rapper.
In response to his lawyer’s departure, Speed Darlington said Alieke was free to go if he no longer wanted to support him.
