Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has been named the most-streamed artiste in Nigeria on Spotify, following the release of new data by the streaming platform to mark its five-year anniversary in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana.

Spotify unveiled the figures on Monday via its official Instagram page, celebrating the platform’s growth across the three African countries since its launch.

According to the data, Asake topped the ranking of Nigeria’s most-streamed artistes, ahead of other music heavyweights including Wizkid, Seyi Vibez, Burna Boy, and Davido.

The list highlights the continued dominance of Afrobeats in Nigeria, with the leading artistes shaping listening patterns through hit releases over the past few years.

Spotify credited listeners for the milestone, describing the achievement as being “powered by you.”

“Celebrating 5 years of Spotify in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, powered by you,” the platform wrote.

Beyond leading the artiste chart, Asake also dominated the list of most-streamed songs in Nigeria. His track “Remember” emerged as the country’s most-streamed song, while another hit, “Lonely at the Top,” secured a spot in the top five.

Other songs that made the top streaming list include “Dealer” by Ayo Maff featuring Fireboy DML, “Awolowo” by Fido, and “Kese (Dance)” by Wizkid, reflecting a blend of street pop, mainstream Afrobeats and dance anthems.

Spotify’s data further revealed that Nigerian users have created more than 25 million playlists in the last five years, significantly higher than Kenya’s 9.5 million and Ghana’s 3.7 million. The platform also noted that the average Nigerian listener is 26 years old, underscoring the strong influence of young audiences on music consumption.

Asake’s growing global impact was also highlighted. In 2024, he became the first African artiste to top Spotify’s global debut chart after the release of his third studio album, Lungu Boy.

The 15-track project, which features collaborations with Wizkid, Travis Scott, Stormzy, Central Cee, and Ludmilla, set a new record for the biggest first-day streams for an African album on Spotify, debuting with 9.42 million streams.

One of the album’s standout tracks, “MMS” featuring Wizkid, also broke records on Spotify Nigeria, achieving 870,000 streams on its first day — the highest ever for a song on the platform in the country.

The latest milestone further cements Asake’s position as one of the most influential Nigerian artistes of his generation.
