There is presently tension in Taraba State, particularly among the political actors as the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Jalingo, the State capital, had scheduled the date to deliver judgement.
The tribunal has concluded for September 30 to be the date for the ruling on the petition filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, and its gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general election, Professor Sani Yahaya, against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, and Governor Agbu Kefas.
Recall that NNPP and its guber candidate, had dragged both the PDP candidate and Governor Kefas to the tribunal over claims that the election was marred by several malpractices.
Yahaya had sought for the tribunal to nullify the whole ballot exercise and grant a fresh governorship election in the state.
The date communicated for the judgement is coming barely two weeks after both parties had adopted their final written addresses before the tribunal led by Justice G. A. Sunmonu.
Some PDP supporters have expressed anxiety about the upcoming judgement as a result of the recent trends on the 2023 elections at different courts of law across the country.
The PDP Party’s spokesperson, Andeta’rang Irammae, had said:
“There is palpable anxiety but we are prayerful and we believe God will see us through.”
The NNPP supporters were not left behind as they too had revealed their concerns over the incoming judgement.
