Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his frustration following a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg in a pre-season match on Monday. Noah Holm scored the game’s only goal with the last kick, leaving Ten Hag visibly upset with his players’ performance.
Despite the absence of several first-team members on vacation after Euro 2024, notable players like Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, and Casemiro featured in the outing. However, their presence couldn’t prevent the disappointing loss.
Speaking to MUTV, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards at Manchester United. “The result is not secondary. Of course, we play pre-season, but at Man United, there is a standard: you win games, definitely, not lose games,” he said. “If you can’t win games, don’t lose like we did in the end, in the last second of the game.”
The Dutch manager also criticized the overall performance, stating, “The performance is more important, and the performance was below standard.”
As United’s pre-season continues, Ten Hag’s comments highlight the need for improvement and consistency, regardless of the match’s context. The team will need to regroup and meet the expectations set by their manager ahead of the upcoming season.
