Despite attempts to stave off concerns over the growing cloud of apprehension hovering over its presidential aspirants, reports have revealed that things may not be quite right with the All Progressives Congress (APC) party. Coming in on the heels of the announcement of nine new guidelines that aspirants must follow as they battle for their various target offices. The situation indicates that the aspirants in question are not particularly thrilled with the development.
Included in the guidelines released last week were restraining orders preventing presidential, governorship, and parliamentary aspirants from going to court without first exhausting the party’s avenues for resolution of grievances, requirements for candidates to sign undertakings detailing their acceptance of shadow polls results regardless of the outcome and willingness to give their unwavering support to whoever emerges as a candidate.
The guidelines also directed them to restrain themselves from resorting to nasty acts like the creation of parallel congresses, hiring of thugs, or any such anti-party activities. These guidelines are allegedly a result of the difficulties the party is having dealing with the unexpected influx of aspirants seeking the chance to contest for the presidential seat, although there are strong rumors that this is merely a move to check unscrupulous politicians who are in a race for the sole purpose of preventing their colleagues from winning the ticket.
