According to RTNC radio, soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have apprehended a suspected militia leader and paraded him in front of the public.
According to Jean-Paul Ntoto of the Butembo police, the man was a member of the Mai Mai group and had been tattooing young boys, claiming it would shield them from stray gunshots.
According to reports, the suspect frequently attacked military installations in North Kivu’s Butembo.
Mr. Ntoto stated on RTNC radio that he is an outlaw and leader of the Mai Mai. He also added that on July 26, when the Monusco [United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo] base was assaulted, they observed him hiding among a group of individuals with a spear.
Along with two other alleged bandits who authorities claim had a gun and ammunition, the putative militia leader was shot and taken into custody.
