The Maya community in Lanlate town, Ibarapa East LGA in the Ibarapa geo-political zone of Oyo State has been thrown into complete darkness.
According to reports, the community was plunged into complete darkness due to a fire incident that damaged the electric transformer serving the entire community.
It was gathered on Friday that goods and valuables worth millions of Naira were damaged in the fire that burnt some shops and stalls at Maya market in Lanlate town.
Adebo Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly representing Ibarapa East Constituency, had confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday.
Assemblyman Ogundoyin, had remarked that he had visited the community to gauge the level of damage, the fire wrought.
The incident had already, paralysed the socio-economic activities of the community.
In Ogundoyin’s words:
“Stores and stalls, including goods, were totally razed down in the inferno while the electric transformer serving the entire community was additionally destroyed. This single incident threw the whole Maya community into complete darkness, paralysing the socioeconomic activities of my people in Maya.”
While giving thanks to God that no one perished in the fire incident, the assemblyman sympathised with the traders on the loss of their valuable goods, and assured them that the incident would be brought to the attention of the State Governor.
“I am promising that something quick will be done on the transformer in order to restore electricity back to Maya Community”. Ogundoyin concluded.
