Tiger Woods announced he underwent successful surgery on his lower back, to take care of the pain and spasms that plagued him during the 2024 season. The 15-time major champion had microdecompression surgery on his lumbar spine for nerve impingement in West Palm Beach, Fla. The procedure was deemed a success.
“Surgery went well, and I am optimistic this will alleviate the back spasms and pain I was having for most of the 2024 season,” Woods wrote on his official X account. “I look forward to diving into this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”
This year, Woods has barely played, with just the Genesis Invitational and the four majors on his schedule. He last competed in July at the British Open, where he missed the cut.
The 82-time PGA Tour winner, who survived a near career-ending car crash in 2021, has remained committed to returning to the sport and indicated he had every intention of continuing to play as long as he feels he can still compete for victories.
Woods now hopes the latest surgery will see him make a full recovery and return to competitive golf in the near future.
