Nigeria’s president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accused the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi of reportedly sponsoring a United States-based Nigerian, Lloyd Ukwu, who is the Executive Director of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), to smear and discredit his win at the February 25 presidential polls.
Recall that after INEC declared APC’s Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election on March 1, 2023, regardless of the criticism that trailed the election which several political analysts have described as the worst since the country’s return to democracy in 1999.
Meanwhile, after the reported election rigging, the United States chapter of NADECO had this past weekend, announced Tinubu’s expulsion from the group, citing a fraudulent electoral process as the reason. The group had additionally said that it would not accept electoral fraud simply because Tinubu had been a founding member of NADECO and a loyal supporter of NADECO USA.
Meanwhile, in a reaction to the group’s announcement, Tinubu, through a statement issued via his Special Adviser, Dele Alake, had said the group wanted to use the press conference to belittle and cast aspersions on the credibility of the 2023 presidential polls.
Tinubu had also remarked that he found it insulting, fraudulent, and comical that a platform he had been a part of during the military era to emancipate Nigeria was now being used against him.
