On Tuesday, 10th May 2022, spokespersons for the country of Ukraine announced that their forces had recaptured and freed from enemy hands several villages from Russian troops.
Describing the move as only part of a major counter-offensive designed to shove enemy forces to the northeastern parts of the country, they also said that it was a possible signal towards a shift in the war’s momentum and a wrench in Russia’s plans.
The press speaker for the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade Tetiana Apatchenko confirmed the news, naming the recaptured villages as Cherkaski Tyshky, Borshchova, Ruski Tyshki, and Slobozhanske, all of which were located near Kharkiv troops were stationed. Also speaking was Yurly Saks, an adviser to Minister of Defense Oleksly Reznikov who said that his troops were already pushing the Russian artillery out of its previously controlled zones. Those zones had been primarily located in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city and recipient of heavy bombardment since the war began.
Next on the attack schedule are the Russian supply lines, which according to Neil Melvin of the London RUSI think-tank is one of the country’s main weaknesses. Already Ukrainian troops have inched ever closer to the Russia-Ukraine border, steadily erasing all of the gains made by the aggressor country in the weeks before.
