The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has announced his support for the restoration of civilian rule and the transition to democracy in Sudan after the country’s military coup in October 2021.
According to Türk, renewed efforts were needed to restore civilian rule and democracy in the country. The UN high commissioner announced while giving an update to the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday, March 3.
However, Turk had acknowledged that transitions were not a straightforward process, but he had asserted that enormous opportunities existed for progress in all areas and for sustainable development that would be more equitably shared.
