University of Nigeria Students in Uproar at 100% School Fees Spike

The denizens of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka are currently in an uproar over the latest decision by the school authorities to raise the school fees of the institution by 100%. In contrast to the previous figures, the newly released ones as detailed in the documents produced by the school administration are as follows:

The Faculty of Business Administration and Environmental Sciences would have incoming 100-level students pay N114,000, 200 and 300-level students would pay N85,000 with final-year students expected to pay N83,000.

Students in the Biological and Physical Sciences Faculties would pay N112,000 at the 100 level, N85,000 at the 200 and 300 levels, and N83,000 at the final year.

Students in the Social Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, VTE, Education, and Arts Faculties would pay N110,000 for 100 levels, N85,000 for 200 and 300 levels, and N83,000 for final-year members.

Students in the Faculty of Engineering would pay N116,000 at the 100 level, N85,000 at the 200 and 300 levels, and N83,000 in the final year.

Students in the Medicine, Pharmacy, Basic Medical Sciences, Dentistry, and Health Sciences Faculties would pay N120,000 at the 100 level, N95,000 at the 200 and 300 levels, and N92,000 at the final year.

And finally, students in the Faculties of Law and Veterinary Medicine would pay N119,00 at the 100 level, N95,000 at the 200 and 300 levels, and N92,000 in the final year.

In addition to these, the hostel fees also saw an increase to N35,000 per year.

Speaking on the incident the school’s Student Union Government (SUG) urged its members, the students as well as the general public to maintain calm and exercise patience over the announcement. They promised that they working in the interest of the students and that they were already in deep discussion with the school authorities over the matter.
