The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s letter to the Rivers State House of Assembly as “useless,” reigniting tensions in the state’s already heated political scene. Fubara had written to the lawmakers seeking a meeting over the implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Rivers’ political crisis, but Wike wasted no time in tearing down the governor’s approach.

Wike, the immediate past governor and a dominant figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made his position clear while addressing journalists in Abuja. His sharp remarks have added fuel to the long-running battle for political supremacy in Rivers State, leaving many wondering whether Fubara has what it takes to challenge Wike’s authority.

Wike Calls Fubara’s Letter Useless, Mocks His Leadership

Wike did not just criticize the letter—he outright dismissed it as “useless” and ridiculed Fubara’s entire approach to governance. According to him, Speaker Martins Amaewhule and other lawmakers are not “Fubara’s boys” and should be treated with the respect they deserve.

Blasting Fubara’s decision to send a formal letter instead of making personal contact, Wike said, “You don’t invite lawmakers through a public letter.” He suggested that Fubara should have simply called Amaewhule and arranged a meeting privately. His words paint a picture of a governor who, in Wike’s view, lacks both political wisdom and strategic thinking.

Is Fubara Losing the Battle for Rivers?

Wike’s latest attack is just another chapter in the unending drama between him and Fubara. Many still see Wike as the true power in Rivers State, despite Fubara holding the governor’s office. The state remains divided between those loyal to Wike and those supporting Fubara, making it clear that the real fight is over control.

The Supreme Court’s verdict was expected to stabilize the situation, but instead, it seems to have widened the rift. With Wike publicly declaring Fubara’s letter useless, it raises a very important question—who is really in charge of Rivers State?

Fubara now faces a major test. Will he push back against Wike’s public humiliation and assert his authority as governor, or will he continue to be overshadowed? Wike calling Fubara’s letter useless is not just an insult but a reflection of the deepening power struggle in Rivers State. With governance on the line and political alliances shifting, Rivers’ leadership crisis is far from over.
