Will Burna Boy, Tems, Asake and Others Bring Home BET Awards for Nigeria?

Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Seyi Vibez have received nominations in multiple BET Award categories. Watch BET (ch 40) at 12am on Monday for the ultimate celebration of black excellence.

Following the success of his seventh album, “I Told Them,” Burna Boy aims to add two more awards to his impressive collection on Sunday. The Grammy winner is nominated for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, competing with Chris Brown, Usher, and Drake, and for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, facing off against J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Lil Wayne.

Tems, also a Grammy winner, is up for two awards: Video Director of the Year, competing against Offset, Janelle Monáe, Alan Ferguson, and Tyler The Creator, and Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her hit “Me&U,” contending with Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Maverick City, and Halle Berry.

Ayra Starr, rising globally, is nominated for Best New Artist, competing with Tyla, Sexyy Red, Fridayy, October London, and DLOW. Her song “Commas” is also up for the BET Her Award, contending with Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj & Tasha Cobbs, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, and Victoria Monét.

Asake is competing for the Best International Act, along with Tyla, Focalistic, Aya Nakamura, Tiakola, Raye, Karol Conka, BK, and Cleo Sol. Seyi Vibez is up for the Viewers’ Choice Best International Act, competing with Bellah, Cristale, Holly G, Duquesa, Jungheli, Makhadzi, Tyler ICU, and Oruam.

British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris is nominated for Best Actor, competing with Denzel Washington, Idris Elba, Anthony Mackie, Donald Glover, LaKeith Stanfield, and Colman Domingo.
