In a shocking and distressing incident that has left the nation in disbelief, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) stationed in Kaduna State, Grace Chalya Silas, met a tragic end at the hands of a ruthless gang known for their involvement in phone snatching and other criminal activities. This heart-wrenching event unfolded in the early morning hours while Grace was engaged in her routine jog along a road in the Barnawa area of Kaduna metropolis.

According to a close friend of the late Grace, the culprits mercilessly attacked her, fatally stabbing her in the chest, and callously snatched her phone before fleeing the scene. The police authorities have since launched an urgent manhunt to bring these perpetrators to justice.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the state and beyond. The NYSC management is yet to issue a statement, while Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesman, Manir Hassan, revealed that the Commissioner of Police has taken swift action. An emergency meeting was convened, leading to the directive for the Barnawa Divisional Police Officer and operatives to intensively pursue the culprits responsible for this heinous crime.

Mr. Hassan commented on the tragic event, stating, “It’s a very tragic incident. She was performing her early morning jogging when some miscreants on motorcycles pounced on her.” Grace Chalya Silas, who was serving as a corps member in Kaduna South, tragically lost her life despite the police’s prompt response.

The situation further highlights the prevalent security concerns in Nigeria, where citizens often grapple with the grim reality of their safety hanging in the balance. In a country where life is seemingly held with such little regard, the incident has sparked outrage and the hope that the responsible individuals are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice to honor the memory of the fallen corps member. The nation collectively prays for a safer and more just environment.
