10 Skin care resolutions and essentials to make in 2022
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The jingle bells have finally stopped ringing and we are slowly getting off the festive high. As you write down your new year resolutions for career, relationships and any other aspects of your life don’t forget to include your skin health.

Dear skin,

2021 has been a Rocky year for us, I apologize for neglecting you as I did on those days when I was trying to find my bearing.

I promise to be benevolent and consistent to taking care of you this year. I promise to eat the right foods, take the right drinks and supplements to ensure you are in good state. I also promise to try not to make the same mistakes I made this year — I will cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize the proper way and only use authorized products that are good for you.

Lastly, I promise to be patient and put no pressure on you.

Thank you.

It is quite easy to fall off the rail in your skin care routine, but practicing these tips with a little consistency will gradually become a habit. Here are some skin care tips to include in your routine this new year:

Moisturize

You have probably seen this all year round in every skin care article you read. Moisturizing is very important to the skin health. Ensure to make it a mandatory exercise. Moisturize daily, your skin needs it.

Cleanse

Ordinary bath soaps contains toxic ingredients that can be harmful to your skin, the face especially. To properly cleanse your face, you need to invest in an authorized cleansing products. You are to cleanse the face daily. If you have dry skin, you should go for products with Aloe Vera and chamomile to keep your skin moisturized. If you have oily skin, choose products with orange and grapefruit to ensure your skin feels refreshed.

Exfoilate

Use an exfoliating scrub on your skin weekly, it helps to remove dead skin cells and leaves your skin feeling smooth and supple.

  • Apply a face mask weekly. It is advisable to go for clay masks or masks that also doubles as a scrub. You can also keep it natural by making your own facial mask with natural ingredients like turmeric, honey and sugar.
  • Always clean your phone or any other gadget you use regularly with alcohol based wipes. You have no idea the amount of germs on your device, it is easy to get those germs on your face, which will eventually build up and clog your skin pores.

Balanced diet

What you eat and drink influences your skin. So eat more nutritional diets and cut down on carbonated drinks or food with lots of sugar.

  • Detoxification is also one habit you need to acquire this year. Detoxifying helps to get rid of the toxins in your body. Once you are good on the inside you would definitely shine outside.
  • Deworming – you are probably not expecting to see this. But, Deworming goes a long way in your skin health. It is quite easy to do, just get a Deworming drug to use every six months. (little secret: I hadn’t dewormed in 2 years and I had lots of chaos going on inside with skin issues too. I was advised to deworm and I felt better afterwards, my skin felt better too)

Sunscreen

Please do not ignore this. Sunscreens have become very important to the skin, especially if you live in hot areas. Invest in sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or 20. It helps to protect the skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

One of the skin mistakes I made this year was to ignore my neck and chest during my skin routine. I developed some skin reactions on my neck and chest area that made me feel embarrassed. I started wearing turtle necks which looked very awkward. Anyways, it’s okay to make mistakes. We go again next year!

What were the mistakes you made this year?
