South Korean captain Son Heung-min has issued an apology to the fan with tears in eyes in after removal from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the group stage.
The apology was issued on Wednesday, a day after head coach Hong Myung-bo resigned from his post due to their elimination of South Korea from the next level in the ongoing tournament. South Korea lost out after losing two matches against co-host Mexico and South Africa.
After starting their campaign with a win against the Czech Republic with the likes of Son, Lee Kang-in and Kim Min-jae, the Korean side faltered at the knockout stage.
Son, in a post on Instagram, made his intention known about how the whole squad feels about the fans. He wrote, ” I would like to make my apology to all the Korean people and fans who love football more than any other. ‘Sorry’ could not be enough to express all the emotion we feel. The veteran, 33 years of age, had an injury and struggled in the tournament.
Hong left him in a substitute role in their loss against South Africa. Despite that, Son pledged allegiance to the Korean team as long as his services are required.
