On Monday, Nigerian authorities revealed that a military airstrike targeting terrorists in northern Kaduna state had mistakenly bombed a local village killing innocents.

The Kaduna state Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs officials confirmed the incident after an emergency security meeting held on Monday.

Authorities have revealed that the military jet was on a routine counterterrorism operation on Sunday when it unintentionally bombed the Tudun village killing dozens of residents at a go.

The victims had assembled to mark the Maulud celebration, –Prophet Muhammad’s birthday– when the incident occurred.

Local media have reported that at least 30 people were killed, and dozens of others were currently being treated in the hospital.

The Kaduna state government have since commiserated with the affected families.

This wont be the first military airstrike thats killed civilians in Nigeria this year.
In January, an airstrike struck a ting settlement in Nasarawa state close to Abuja, killing 39 people and injuring six others.

Nigeria has been fighting to end a 14-year Islamic insurgency in its northeast region and to keep armed bandits from spreading across the northwest and to central states.

Kaduna and Abuja is one of the states severely affected by the activities of the kidnap-for-ransom miscreants.
