The entire Ijesaland in Osun State is in deep mourning following the passing of its revered ruler, the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.
Before his death was officially confirmed, there had been growing anxiety in Osun State regarding the health of the monarch, with heightened security and comments from the palace’s sons and daughters. Oba Aromolaran ascended the throne on February 20, 1982, ruling for 42 years until his demise. He was highly respected not only for his leadership but also as an author of numerous books and a passionate advocate for education, awarding countless scholarships. As a king, Oba Aromolaran was a beacon of strength in Ijesaland and served as the Chairman of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers.
His death was announced in a statement signed by the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, which was obtained by PUNCH on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital.
