Carlos Alcaraz stormed to his first Monte Carlo Masters title on Sunday, coming back from a set down to beat Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in a one-sided performance. It was a sixth Masters 1000 title, and 10th overall — including four Grand Slams — for the 21-year-old Spaniard, who recovered from a slow start to register his biggest victory since he raised the Wimbledon trophy in 2024.
After hitting some bumps in March, with early exits in Miami and Indian Wells, Alcaraz found his best form again on the clay courts of Monte Carlo. The Spaniard did not have to play his best after 11 of his own unforced errors in the first set, and a confident start from Musetti, but he turned the momentum around in the second set with aggressive baseline shots and unremitting pressure.
Musetti, who had slogged through several marathon matches over the week, faded as Alcaraz seized complete control. Needing treatment for a thigh injury in the final set, the Italian had no answers as Alcaraz closed out the victory, dropping only eight points in the decider.
The victory vaults Alcaraz to No. 2 in the world and first in the 2025 ATP Race, surpassing Alexander Zverev. He then moves on to the Barcelona Open before aiming to defend his Roland Garros title next month.
