Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed optimism about the potential return of Netherlands international Jurrien Timber before the end of the season. Timber, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during his Premier League debut for the club in August, has been sidelined since then.

Arteta revealed that Timber has been progressing well in training and is nearing a comeback. Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s match against Luton Town, Arteta mentioned Timber’s involvement in training sessions and hinted at the possibility of him featuring for the Under-21s side to regain match fitness.

While Timber hasn’t played any competitive minutes yet, Arteta emphasized the importance of ensuring he is fully prepared before reintroducing him to first-team action. The manager indicated that Timber’s return hinges on how quickly he can complete the final phase of his recovery.

When asked about the likelihood of Timber returning before the season concludes, Arteta expressed confidence, stating that Timber has a “good chance” of making a comeback. However, he refrained from specifying a percentage, emphasizing Timber’s determination to push himself during his rehabilitation.

In other injury updates, Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka, who was withdrawn during the draw against Manchester City, is “fine,” while Gabriel Martinelli, who replaced Saka in that match, is also available for selection.

With a victory over Luton, Arsenal could reclaim the top spot in the table, as current leaders Liverpool are not in action until Thursday. As Arteta’s side aims for a strong finish to the season, Timber’s potential return could provide a significant boost to their squad depth and defensive options.

Personal Opinion:

This news comes as a welcome development for Arsenal, especially considering their upcoming crucial fixtures, including a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich. Timber’s return could bolster the team’s chances of success both domestically and in Europe, injecting fresh energy into their campaign. As a supporter, I believe Timber’s presence will strengthen Arsenal’s resolve as they vie for silverware in multiple competitions.
