After Arsenal let a two-goal lead slip to force a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, Mikel Arteta revealed that the Gunners have lacked consistency over the past few months.
The Premier League leaders were seemingly heading to a convincing win to further their lead at the top when Bukayo Saka broke his 15-match goal drought, and a second from Piero Hincapi sealed the double. A win for Arsenal would have seen them seven points ahead of their rivals, Manchester City.

Wolves, however, came back strongly from their position. Hugo Buenos curling shot brought the holders back to within one before a substitute, Tom Edozie, scored a stoppage, which was his senior debut. He took advantage of a timid punch from David Raya to give the home side a historic point. It was the first occasion in the Premier League that the team at the bottom of the table had held the leaders to a draw after being 2- 0 down.
The scoreline means Arsenal have now relinquished seven points from positions from which they were winning in 2026, and more worryingly for the Gunners, they have failed to win three of their last five league games on occasions when they were leading.
“It’s tremendously hard to swallow, ” Arteta revealed, “We simply didn’t do what was necessary to win a Premier League match in the second half. We have to look at ourselves very critically because the performance was not good enough.”
Saka was on the same page with Arteta, who also expressed his disappointment, saying “the performance today was nowhere near the standard that we have set this season.”
Arsenal need to find a way to dominate games again if they want to be champions by May.
