On February 14, the universities’ Academic Staff Union called a labor strike that sent students home, many did not anticipate that the industrial action would last so long. Orji Kalu, Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, has urged the federal government to take appropriate steps to ensure this insanity called the strike is ended. According to lawmakers, if the federal government and ASUU are always on each other toes, he asked what kind of graduate they would expect from universities.

He berated both parties to stop toying with the future of the children studying in Nigeria whom they have sent home to their parents.

“The federal government should urgently take all necessary action to enter into realistic negotiations with ASUU to end the strike and implement signed agreements in the interests of our students, their parents, the education sector, and the country. We must stop playing with the future, our youth.”

Just last week, Yul Edochie and Super Eagles player Musa Ahmed berated government officials celebrating their children’s graduation from foreign universities while driving Nigerian students home to their parents because they didn’t take appropriate measures to end the strike.
