A 150 million Real Madrid offer for Atletico Madrid’s Argentine striker Julian Alvarez was turned down as city rivals told them they would not even discuss an approach for the player.
It was announced on Tuesday by the Spanish giants that an offer for Alvarez was made following a board meeting, but the Atletico president said the forward has a 500 million release clause.
“Atletico de Madrid, having analyzed and evaluated the proposal submitted in the context of the cordial relations between the two clubs, thanked the club for the offer and rejected it, referencing the player’s release clause,” read an official club statement released on their website.

But the response from the club’s rival has come swiftly as they denied any suggestion that an offer was discussed.
“The confusion you must have between courtesy and gratefulness: we thank you for nothing,” Atletico posted on their Twitter account.
“We analyzed and evaluated no offer for Julian.”
The failed offer follows one day after Florentino Perez confirmed he will spend a further four years as Real Madrid president following the club’s first contested election in over two decades.
Perez had been making promises of a significant 150 million signing during his campaign; this then led to rumors surrounding the player’s move to Madrid. The striker netted twenty goals in forty-nine appearances last season, and this performance will only boost the claims that the striker is a serious transfer target.
