The National Security Adviser –NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, had revealed on Wednesday, that investigation has begun, into the assault on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress –NLC, Joe Ajaero.
The NSA had also revealed that some suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident that happened in Owerri, the Imo State capital city, on November 1, 2023.
The Labour Organisation embarked on a nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 14, to seek justice over an assault on Ajaero who was assaulted when he was about to lead a protest against reported anti-labour practices by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led administration.
In a statement signed by Zakari Mijinyawa, the Head of Strategic Communication in the NSA Office, Ribadu expressed regret over the incident and “condemned it in its entirety as it was against the rule of law and the principles of freedom of association as well as expression advocated by President Bola Tinubu and his administration”.
The NSA had reiterated that the Federal Government would never condone such terrible act.
“As a fallout of the incident, the appropriate authorities were ordered to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring the miscreants to book. Available update shows that a few arrests have already been made to this regard. The result of the investigation will be announced to the public as soon as it is concluded.” the statement partly read.
