Chelsea defeated Servette from Switzerland 2-0 in the first leg game for the playoffs of the Europa Conference League played in the wee of night on Thursday. Enzo Maresca enjoyed his first victory in charge of the London club.
After a very daunting half, Chelsea opened the deadlock in the 50th minute courtesy of a perfectly taken penalty by Christopher Nkunku. In the 76th minute, the lead was doubled with a brilliant assist from Enzo Fernandez. He found Noni Madueke, who never made a mistake, as the ball found the back of the net easily to give the Blues a two-goal cushion.
Despite their early struggles, the mix-and-match Chelsea side took a vice-like grip after the break and now has one foot in the next stage ahead of the return. The second leg of this tie is next week in Geneva, as Chelsea tries to complete the task and move forward.
