A court has denied Barcelona an application to extend the registration of Dani Olmo until the end of the season, leaving them with only four days to sort out his current situation before his registration runs out on December 31.
Olmo, along with academy graduate Pau Víctor, was promoted to the Barcelona first team during the summer but could not be registered due to the club’s financial situation. The Spain international was temporarily registered after Andreas Christensen’s injury but this is due to expire at the start of the new year.
Barcelona took the case to court against La Liga, citing flaws in the league’s regulations, but the plea was thrown out. According to SPORT, the judge dismissed Barca’s claim of La Liga’s “incompetence” and upheld the rules of the league.
This is in contrast to the success of Barcelona’s registration of Gavi back in January 2023. This time, however, La Liga’s opposition came strong.
This is a big problem for Barcelona because, according to reports, Olmo’s contract contains a clause that means he can leave for free if he is not registered. The 26-year-old’s agent, Andy Bara, was spotted in Manchester to further fuel the rumors of talks with either Manchester City or Manchester United. Bara, however, said he was “on holiday.
