Renowned Nigerian actor Dele Odule has revealed the most devastating moment of his life as the death of his first child.
In a recent interview with fellow actor Kunle Afod, the 63-year-old Yoruba movie icon described the incident as the saddest day he has ever experienced.
He recounted the heartbreak of receiving the tragic news, made even more painful by the circumstances surrounding the child’s birth.
“The saddest moment in my life was when I was told my first child died. It was very hard on me,” he said.
“It was hard because of the situation surrounding the child’s birth. It was very hard on me but no one can question the authority of God. It was so bad and I do not pray for such anymore.”
While Odule refrained from going into detail, he noted that he has come to terms with the loss and accepts it as God’s will.
Shifting focus to his family, the actor disclosed that his children have shown a natural inclination toward the arts.
One is particularly talented in singing, while another has displayed an interest in acting. However, Odule emphasised the importance of education, stating that his children must complete their studies and achieve independence before considering a career in entertainment.
“My children are naturally artistic. One of them has a talent for singing, while another shows potential in acting. However, I’ve made my passion for education clear to them, so they are currently more focused on their studies,” he said.
“I’m not sure if they may want to pursue acting in the future, but for now, I would not allow it. If any of them decides to act, it will have to wait until they have completed their education and become independent.”
Dele Odule’s illustrious career spans over three decades. He began his acting journey with the Oloko Theatre Group under the mentorship of Mukaila Adebisi and made his industry debut in 1986.
He gained widespread fame for his role in Ti Oluwa Ni Ile and has since featured in over 200 films, solidifying his place as a Yoruba film legend.
