Delta PDP Fires Back at APC for Rumors on Governor Oborevwori’s Defection

The Delta State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sharply criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it describes as baseless rumors regarding Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s alleged plan to defect to the opposition party.

Reports of the rumored defection, which Governor Oborevwori had previously dismissed through his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, drew a formal response from the APC. On Thursday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, downplayed the rumors, calling them mere speculation.

However, the Delta PDP, speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, issued a strong rebuttal on Saturday. The party condemned the APC for what it termed a reliance on unfounded claims, describing the opposition as internally unstable and desperate to gain relevance.

PDP Attributes Rumors to APC’s Anxiety

Osuoza accused the APC of being unsettled by Governor Oborevwori’s growing popularity and the successes of his administration. He criticized the APC Publicity Secretary for issuing a statement based on unverified rumors, calling it a reflection of poor judgment and desperation.

“The APC’s discomfort stems from Governor Oborevwori’s inclusive leadership and impressive performance, which have resonated positively with the public. These accomplishments have not only enhanced his political standing but also solidified his chances for re-election in 2027,” Osuoza stated.

Misinterpretation of Collaboration

Osuoza also refuted suggestions that the governor’s calls for cooperation with President Bola Tinubu’s administration on socio-economic reforms were indicative of plans to defect. He described this misinterpretation as a glaring example of the APC’s inability to focus on substance over speculation.

“When a political institution begins to act on rumors instead of facts, it signals a significant failure in its core values,” Osuoza said.

He further accused the APC of struggling to navigate its internal issues while resorting to propaganda to undermine the governor’s achievements.

PDP Reaffirms Commitment to Good Governance

Highlighting the PDP’s guiding principles, Osuoza reaffirmed the party’s dedication to socio-economic growth, the prosperity of citizens, and the promotion of good governance. He noted that these values have consistently driven Governor Oborevwori’s administration, further endearing him to the people of Delta State.

“The Delta APC is clinging to unintelligent propaganda as a survival strategy. Sadly for them, it won’t work,” Osuoza remarked.

Conclusion

The PDP’s statement shows the party’s confidence in Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and its belief that the APC’s recent actions are born out of frustration and political anxiety. As the state gears up for future elections, the PDP remains resolute in defending its record while challenging the opposition to engage in constructive and fact-based discourse.
