Famous American singer Taylor Swift has dismissed claims that she was envious of her best friend and fellow pop star, Selena Gomez, for getting married before her.
Gomez tied the knot with producer Benny Blanco in late September, with Swift among the attendees. Rumours later circulated that Swift joked about Gomez “beating her to the altar” during her wedding speech.
Addressing the speculation on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Swift clarified that her speech included playful remarks about how she and Gomez dressed years ago, but it was never focused on her own engagement.
She said, “I made a point to not mention anything about my engagement.”
Reflecting on her speech, Swift added:
“I did do some light teasing about the way we dressed in 2008, the year we met. It was the year of deep, deep V-neck. It was the year of colorful skinny jeans. I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it’s been to get to be a part of her life, but I did not make it about me.”
Swift also revealed why she hadn’t informed her close friend, Ed Sheeran, about her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.
She explained that Sheeran doesn’t use a phone and can only be reached via email or FaceTime.
