Edin Terzic has resigned from his position as head coach of Borussia Dortmund, just weeks after guiding the team to the Champions League final. The 40-year-old, who also led Dortmund to the German Cup victory in 2021, had his resignation accepted following discussions with the club’s hierarchy.
Terzic’s tenure at Dortmund was marked by significant achievements. His leadership saw the team narrowly miss out on European glory, losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Despite his success and secure position, Terzic chose to step down, expressing a desire for the club to start a new chapter with fresh leadership.
“Even though it really hurts, I want to inform you that I will leave BVB today. It was a huge honour to lead this club to a DFB Cup victory and a recent Champions League final,” Terzic said in his farewell statement. “After our final at Wembley, I asked for a discussion with the club bosses. I’ve been at BVB for over 10 years, and I feel that our new beginning should also come with someone new on the touchline.”
Terzic leaves Dortmund after over a decade of service, wishing the club all the best for the future and hinting that his departure is not a permanent goodbye.
